Nestled at the base of Thornton's Peak, the tallest peak in the region, the Lodge is surrounded by tropical palms, giant rainforest trees from which hang huge epiphyte basket ferns, staghorns and birds' nests. Over 2 000 species of plants grow within the surrounds. Cassowaries, rainforest dragons, ulysses butterflies and birds feed on the prolific rainforest fruits.
You may see the orange-footed scrub fowl building it huge mound alongside your garden path, or you may disturb the boyd's dragon perched motionless on a tree trunk. During spring you may observe the victorian rifle bird serenading for a lady on a special mating pole or the sulphur crested cockatoos loudly claiming fruiting trees as private territories. Activities constantly change with the seasons.
